Class over Ass…You Fail

Last night like most Americans I sat down to watch our President give his “State of the Union” address. For an hour and roughly fifteen minutes I listened to my President be nothing short of amazing, exuding confidence, speaking with eloquence and oozing copious amounts of charisma. During this same time I swelled with even more pride every time the camera man focused on the First Lady, Michelle Obama. Here is a woman that could quite possibly be one of the most solid role models for both black women of my generation and young black girls this century and yet Twitter mentions recognizing her greatness were silent. Well let me correct that, Twitter mentions from black men on my timeline recognizing her greatness were silent. Now I am sure our FLOTUS will not lose any sleep over being bypassed in the thoughts of young men last night, I however find my feathers were more than ruffled by it.
Let me preface my rant by mentioning that MOST of the men that I follow on Twitter by no means fall into the “ignorant” category and more often than not rouse stimulating conversation via Twitter however tonight they get an ultimate #FAIL. Why you ask?
It all goes back to their Monday night tweets about Love & Hip-Hop’s Yandy and her sizable assets. Anyone who turns on a television on Monday night knows that from 8pm to about 11pm it is full of reality tv fuckery for us all to enjoy and what makes it even more enjoyable? The Twitter commentary. On this particular Monday the topic of conversation was Yandy’s booty. Most of my male followers* were blown by the junk she was hiding back there and made it known that she was “shitting” on most of us because of it and that a “Yandy booty” had now been added to their wifey must-have list. C’mon guys…seriously? Yes Yandy has a large ass and you guys are more than within your rights to covet that in your women if that is what turns you on, but shitting on the rest of us based solely on physical attributes? I think not. If I was Yandy I would even be offended that these guys placed my value more on my body and less on the fact that unlike most of the women on this show I have a career that was produced from intelligence and hard-work.
So you may be wondering what does this have to do with Michelle? I found it amazing that none of my male followers mentioned what an awesome woman Michelle Obama was or that her attributes, which are not readily visible, are what they are looking for in their women. Really? I would think that the educated and well-rounded men I follow would LOVE to have a Michelle on their arm. Well put together in public, supportive, intelligent, strong…I could go on and on. But that is not what they talked about last night. While I agree that there was more important things being discussed last night, there was a window of opportunity for my male followers to give the FLOTUS her props and erase or at least equal out some of Monday night shallowness. But I didn’t happen…they dropped the ball and I for one am VERY disappointed.
